Hair Royal Highness

As I mentioned in my last post (With a Spring in Her Step), we’ve had quite a cold, wet Winter, so we’re still loving having gorgeous Spring days – well, day- singular this weekend.  Today was perfect – not a cloud in the sky, no wind (after at least 3 days of gale force winds causing damage to houses and rail lines) and a temperature around 20 degrees.  The trees have blossoms and new leaves and the lawn has started its re-growth phase.   The bi-fold doors have been open all day to let in the fresh air and I had lunch on our deck in the sun while reading the weekend magazines.

This morning we took the family to the local outdoor velodrome where Rupie could have a good off-lead run and Billie and Mike had a jog around the perimeter, while April and I cheated and cut through the middle!!   Billie is still nervous about walking the streets, but seemed quite happy walking in the open spaces and near our local creek.  We even met another couple walking their big foster greyhound, Poker.  Everyone said hello and were very relaxed, all enjoying being out in the sunshine.

It all sounds perfect, doesn’t it?  Well, it almost is, but with Spring comes moulting season – whoever said greyhounds don’t shed could not have owned one!  And Rupert, whatever mix he is, definitely sheds like crazy!

So out came the brush and the flurry of hair.  Rupert provided a cascade of golden locks, while Billie’s fluffy winter coat started coming out in little grey/brown tufts.  April was too relaxed after her morning’s activities to bother to get off the couch for a brush so she’ll have to wait til next time!

Brushing Hair Royal Highness – she might be timid but LOVES a brush!

Rupie relaxing on the couch after his brush – the hair is never ending, but we wouldn’t have him any other way!

The Royal Princess Billie looking very sleek after her brush

Looking quite stunning – a far cry from the poor girl who arrived on our doorstep 3 weeks ago today. Amazing what some good food, brushing, and lots of love can do.

Do you have lots of doggy-hair floating on the sunbeams ?

  1. I’m sorry I liked my own post – I know it contravenes blog etiquette. My husband was trying to Like it but as i was logged into the computer it came up as me! I received a very funny email from wordpress – something about “You’re so vain. You probably think Hair Royal Highness is about you.”! Love it! For those born after Dec 1972, you might need to ask your parents or Google!

  2. Love it! The post and your comment 🙂

I remember that song and someone also did a remake in the 90s (I think).

  3. Chocolate Starfish and even Marilyn Manson in this century….nothing beats the original though..

  4. Reblogged this on KAY'S GREYS and commented:
Good to see Billie developing so nicely! She looks so much better after just 3 short weeks- incredible how these dogs can adapt and forget

  5. Billie is looking stunning! She has an amazing coat! Nikki still has so many bald patches on her, but they are slowing growing back.

  6. Thanks but the photos show her coat to be a little better than it is… she is still very furry and quite brown rather than blue. We’re hoping we’ll get some warmer weather soon so that the fuzzy wuzzy will start to drop out of her. But she will be magnificent if we can get her coat smooth and silky! Billie’s tummy is still bare from when she was de-sexed – it’s taking quite a time to grow back, but you can’t see if from the pics. She has become quite a cheeky young girl – still very nervous when she’s out, but very funny and cheeky when she’s at home – loves playing with Rupie and stands beside me while I’m on the computer with her head on my arms! I’m sure Nikki’s coat will grow back soon.
