Must Love Animals

One Day in September

Today is a special day in the sporting calendar for the city of Melbourne.  It’s the Grand Final for the AFL National Competition (Aussie Rules).  It’s played on the last Saturday in September at our world class stadium (the Melbourne Cricket Ground – MCG – affectionately known locally as ‘The G’).

In front of a crowd of 99,683 and in varying degrees of weather conditions – cold, sunny, windy and the occasional shower – the two sides, Hawthorn and Sydney Swans, played for 2 hours and with 8 minutes to go, the scores were level!  The lead had changed throughout the game a few times but Sydney prevailed by 10 points in a very hard fought, close contest.

My hubby went to the game to watch it and I stayed home to watch it on TV with the doggies.   It very quickly became evident, however, that they weren’t the least bit interested, despite it being an enthralling game!

April and Rupert showing no interest whatsoever

Billie looking decidedly bored

None of the dogs showed any interest – I must admit it was a pretty cold day….

But, Billie is only a young girl and had had enough of laying about – she wanted to do something fun…she was given a new toy and started to play with that….

Then Rupie decided HE wanted the toy….

What do your pets like to watch on TV with you???

My name is Kylie and I am passionate about animals and their welfare. My husband and I live in Bendigo, Australia and live with our three dogs - Rupie, Billie and Chelsea - all rescue dogs. I enjoy writing and aim to share health and welfare issues and updates as well as some short stories.

  1. I’m not a big fan of TV, sometimes if there are animals on screen I might take an interest but otherwise I’m like Rupie, April and Billie

  2. Ruby not interested at all, Gracie only if dogs or cats on and Millee watches anything but funnily enough likes the crime channel!!

  3. Murphy likes any animals that come onto the screen and over the weekend the boys hired Cats and Dogs! Well Murphy was at the TV for most of the film growling and barking at all the animals including a mouse and pigeon! He’ll jump off the couch and run up to the TV whenever he sees any animals and that RSPCA add where all the wounded animals walk across the screen is another of his faves!

  4. I generally avoid sport on tv, either taking the opportunity to do my thing on the computer or catch up with friends for a bit of shopping or coffee and cake. The dogs love joining my husband on the lounge room floor whenever a big game is on although Bundy gets a little frightened by the yelling and occasional jumping/fist pumping when my husband’s team score.

  5. Aww! I love how unimpressed they look 😀

Nikki shows no interest in the tv at all really, the only thing she has every acknowledged was when a dog on tv had a squeaky toy and she ran around checking all of hers…it was if she was making sure the tv dog hadn’t pinched one off her! 😀

    • Nikki obviously loves her toys, and doesn’t want anyone, not even the TV Dog, to play with it! Our Billie only gets to play with her toys sometimes, as Rupie always tries to pinch them and destroy them – see previous post about the Chicken Losing its Head!
