Fabulous Fur Friends is mostly about animals. Since my first pet, Nipper the Guinea Pig, and our first family dog, Bokey, my love of animals has grown. In 2005 I left the corporate world and started my own pet accessories business and grooming salon, and now work for a pet minding business.
I started Fabulous Fur Friends so that I can indulge my passion for pets and interest in creative writing. I hope to be able to combine the two and although I have no delusions of grandeur I can claim to be ‘self published’! Perhaps it might even inspire others to give writing a go and explore their imagination and creativity.
I live in Bendigo, Central Victoria, Australia with my husband Michael and our three beautiful dogs Rupert (Rupie – Staffy X), Billie (Greyhound) and Chelsea (Greyhound). They are rescue dogs – Rupie when he was a tiny puppy in 2004 and in August 2012 we adopted our second greyhound, Billie, after fostering her for a couple of months – she was 2 and a half years old at the time. We now also have Chelsea who was 3 when we adopted her, and is now around 5 years old, though seems to be much younger in her demeanor and her behaviour!
We lost Rupie’s brother Ralph to lymphoma in 2009. I had a special connection with Ralph that is hard to explain; suffice to say I still miss him every day, and to some extent I guess this blog is a dedication to his memory. In October 2013 we lost April, our first adopted greyhound to bone cancer. It was very sudden and unexpected. She was a special girl and we miss her too.
I am passionate about adopting from shelters and rescue groups and giving pets a forever home who might not otherwise survive. I will be writing some articles and updates about current animal health and welfare issues, as well as a healthy dose of short stories and family updates. I hope you will enjoy them and follow the blog for further developments (in my writing I hope!!). If you have any suggestions of things you’d like to see on here, please feel free to drop me a line by leaving a comment on one of the articles.
Thanks for allowing me to follow my passion – hope it becomes yours too!
