I can’t believe it’s been two years since my last post – time really does tend to get away from you.
We have had a few changes in our lives since the last post – very positive ones!
We left the inner suburbs of Melbourne and moved to the country. My husband applied for a job – and got it – in Bendigo, which is in the central goldfields of Victoria. We moved in September 2015, renting a suburban house for a few months while we found our feet and found our way around town.
Not long afterwards we fulfilled our dream of buying a nice house with a very big shed and plenty of space for the dogs to run and play. Mike is over the moon with his shed – he has space for all his cars, and more, he tells me! I love our big, comfortable, modern house with 2.5 acres of land to create a lovely garden. And of course Rupie, Billie and Chelsea love having space to run and play whenever they want, wonderful walks through the nearby bush, and kangaroos to watch through the windows! (For our overseas friends I need to say that although kangaroos are beautiful, shy creatures and we love seeing them around – a lot – we have to be very careful about the dogs seeing them. The ‘roos (or hoppers as we call them) have very large, strong back feet and if cornered by a dog, will attack them and can rip them apart).
The garden is a ‘blank canvass’ and we are slowly creating a garden that suits the climate – very hot and dry in summer and cold and frosty in winter. We’ve planted a lawn, some citrus trees, some olive trees, big shade trees and some beautiful ornamental pears. It is a work in progress that we’ll reap the rewards of over the years, but we are very much enjoying seeing it grow and develop.
We’re loving our new life – lots of cultural and fun things to do in Bendigo if you want, without the hustle and bustle and traffic of a big city (it has a population of approx 110,000 citizens http://www.bendigotourism.com.) It’s easy to get around (a car is a must though) and people have been very friendly and welcoming. We know all our neigbhours and their dogs and adore the surrounding gum trees.
Here are a few pics of us enjoying our new life!
